Alston Moor Community Photographs 2026
13th September 2026, Nenthead 1.00pm, Garrigill 3.00pm.
Alston Heritage is bringing together the communities of Alston, Nenthead and Garrigill in 2026 for Community Photographs.
This has been inspired by the 1999 photos which celebrated the millennium, and other community photos contained within the Alston Moor Historical Society’s archives.
This time we’re celebrating Alston Moor and its amazing community.
Details:
• Nenthead
Gather at The Hive from 12.00. The photo will be taken at around 1.00pm
• Garrigill
The Village Hall will be open from 2pm serving refreshments. The photo will be taken on the Green at about 3.00pm
• Participants will be expected to stand for the photos. Chairs will be available for those that need them.
• If the weather is particularly inclement, the photos will be cancelled. Details of this will be posted on facebook.com/alston.heritage.

• Why is it happening?
To celebrate the turn of the millennium in 1999, the Alston Moor Historical Society promoted and organised community photographs to be taken. This was a modern repeat of similar photos taken to celebrate national events such as Queen Victoria's various jubilees. Slightly more than a generation later, Alston Heritage are hoping to repeat the 1999 event.
Who's paying for it?
This year’s photo has been made possible thanks to Alston Heritage being awarded a community grant from the North Pennines National Landscape through the Land of Lead and Silver project, which is led by the North Pennines National Landscape team and funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England. Alston Moor Partnership has also awarded Alston Heritage a Community Grant.

Copies of the photo will be available to download from this page and from the Alston Moor Historical Society website after the event if you would like to save and/ or print a copy.
